Fast Forward Retrograde
Ode to the Bitten Heart
Trusting lamb
hidden behind
the protective shepherd
trembling sacrifice
thrown upon the sword.
Sleepless nights and
frightened beats keep company.
You hesitantly reach out
to touch the security
of stone cold walls
that quiet the endless roar
of vivid imagination.
Fireflies gather on
the window ledge
beckoning, soft
moonbellies carry
fresh secrets
night blooming flowers
hold sweet nectar to
dissolve leathery scar tissue
the wounded soul
pulls off the delicate petals
crushing them
they release sweet sentiments
and you hold your breath so
as not to inhale hope.
Wraps your arms around yourself
to keep from extending the right hand, to give,
the left, to receive.
Cradle your broken self
in a silken sling.
The wounded heart,
encased in a velvet shroud.
limits its laughter
to empty corridors and
methodically seals
each route to chance
one by one.
But tissue and muscle hold
bright red memory and
pulses of sunshine,
warm and light, care
and consolation.
Patiently coaxing you
timid rabbit with
tender leaves and shoots.
Wide eyed, doe listening,
dun colored ears filtering
the inky darkness,
ever wary of the hunter.
Ode to Regret
I don’t like the way
You make me feel,
honey coated tendrils
hiding poison.
Scorpion,
I cringe at your indifference
and your innate characteristic
to sting.
A wade in uncomfortable waters
Piranha
Flesh eater
Invitation to the buffet
My heart the main dish
Rumplestiltskin promises
Follow through never intended
All smoke and mirrors
The moth’s last thought
As it enters the flame.
Ode to Relief (2008 ->2009)
There are no such things
as regrets
in your world.
Lesson book,
teacher of universal wisdom.
Spring fed brook,
racing through my veins.
hydration,
cloud formation,
fluffy, bouncy,
light hearted,
assured.
Uncaged bird,
soaring to the heights
gently kissing the boundary of
this earthly plane.
The noble hound,
loyal to its mistress.
wears his job with care and pride.
Looks after the home-front,
lives for it,
will die for it.
A warm inviting hug,
the glow of the soul,
as though these regular brown eyes
swallowed votives.
The sweet of olive oil mixed
nag champa incense,
the scent of power,
the power of a decision
made in your best interest.

This haiku is amazing. I love the imagery. I need to practice them more. Mine are always so terrible.
